On Thursday May 5, the grade 6 and 7 students had the opportunity to visit Thornlea Secondary School. The students walked over to the school and had a tour of the building.

After the tour the students participated in a writers' workshop where they worked with grade 12 students on discussing favourite books and what good writers do.

The students had a great time and these are some of our students' thoughts and reflections after the visit:
- getting to see what a high school really looks like was very helpful
- getting to know some high school students would help us have friends
- get to really know how to work on cars was very interesting
- working with the professional lighting was helpful for us now as we explore the new green screen our school has purchased for movie making
- music room with all the instruments made us enthusiastic and interested in playing instruments for next year
- art classes and examples of beautiful artwork and sculptures was something we were very interested in
- gym was huge and the bleachers looked cool
- mixed learning spaces with emphasis on digital literacy was very motivating
- jokes the teachers made, helped us to feel comfortable so high school won't be so scary
- cosmetology room, looked like a real spa and performed make up artistry for real events
- inciting conversation about possible careers and how to prepare for them
Thank you to the staff at Thornlea S.S.and Johnsview Village P.S. for organizing this opportunity and we look forward to many more ways to collaborate with our feeder high school.
