adding, subtracting, and measuring
  • Cooking can involve weighing, measuring, ordering, estimating,
    adding, and multiplying
  • Organizing for a party can mean matching numbers of people to plates,
cutlery, area of tables, ordering food, and seating arrangements
  • Going on a trip by car or plane involves time, distance,
cutlery, area of tables, ordering food, and seating arrangements
  • Completing a half finished symmetrical design using playdough
    (e.g., half a butterfly, tree)

Registration forms are available on YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Children who:
  •  turn four or five years old during 2019,

will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten information session for parents is being planned for later this spring. For more information please visit the YRDSB website or contact your local school.

Documents for Registration

Download and complete any required forms:
The Kindergarten Parent/Guardian Questionnaire allows you to provide your school with specific information to support the transition to school.  Your child’s Kindergarten educators will use the information you share to help to create an inclusive and welcoming transition to Kindergarten for your child.  We appreciate all information that you are able to provide.

The Ministry EYE@K Questionnaire (Early Years Experiences at Kindergarten) will be offered to all families registering their child to Kindergarten for the first time.  Answering the questions is voluntary.  Responses gathered will help Regional planning tables coordinate and improve the programs and services for families and young children in the community.  The Ministry has provided the survey in nine additional languages.

Required Documents:
Find and bring these supporting documents (originals required) to the school office to register:
  • Proof of child’s age (Birth Certificate/Passport)
  • Proof of your child’s address - two documents, one from each of the categories below showing the home address;
    • Category A - notice of tax assessment, current rental/lease agreement, agreement to purchase including proof of purchase provided before the pupil attends the school, or property tax bill, and
    • Category B - utility bill, bank statement or other official document.

Kindergarten is a big step on the journey of learning and this is an exciting time for you and your child. We strongly believe that forming strong partnerships with our parent community is a main factor in achieving success; and encourage you to engage in your child’s education.

York Region District School Board’s mission is to advance student achievement and well-being through public education, which motivates learners, fosters inclusion, inspires innovation and builds community. We look forward to having your child join us and working with you toward his/her success.

French Immersion Registration 2019

French Immersion registration will take place from January 18 - February 8, 2019

Information sessions for the French Immersion (FI) program will take place at French Immersion schools on January 17, 2019 at 7 p.m.

FI registration will begin January 18 2019.

In order to streamline the registration process, parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2019, and wishing to enroll in the FI Program, can visit or call their home school office (where your child currently attends) and request an Office Index Card - short version.

The Office Index Card must be signed by the principal of the home school.

Parents or guardians then take this form, along with one piece of identification showing their address to your designated French Immersion school to register between January 18 and February 8, 2019. This eliminates the need to provide duplicate enrolment information or to pre-register.

Late registrations are those submitted after February 8, 2019.  Late registrations will be treated on a first- come, first-served basis and will be considered subsequent to registrations received during the registration period should overflow be necessary.

Every Student Counts Survey

Student voice is important to us. From November 12 to December 14, 2018, the York Region District School Board will invite all students to participate in the Every Student Counts Survey (ESCS).
The purpose of this census survey is to better understand YRDSB’s diverse student population as well as students’ experiences in school and outside of school. The survey results will be used to help improve our schools and to:
  • Identify and eliminate systemic barriers to student success;
  • Create more equitable and inclusive school environments; and,
  • Improve student achievement and well-being.
All students will be given the opportunity to participate. Accessibility options will be available for any student who needs assistance completing the survey.
  • For students in Kindergarten to Grade 6, the survey will be sent home to be completed with a parent/guardian.
The Every Student Counts Survey (ESCS) is confidential but not anonymous. To ensure confidentiality, no directly identifying information (such as student name) will be on the survey. As one of the main purposes of the survey is to identify and eliminate systemic barriers to student success, all surveys will include a unique code that will be used to link the survey data with student achievement data.  Survey results will only be reported in aggregate form (grouped data only) and no individual students will be identified. A summary of the results will be available at schools and on this webpage in Spring 2019.

Parents of students in grades K to 6 can access the survey at the following address:
www.cci-survey.ca/York/kto6

An information paper was sent home to all families with the unique code for each child to complete the survey at home with parents. If you did not receive this paper with the unique code, please contact the school office and we will be happy to provide you with the code to complete the survey.
