Johnsview Village P.S. is currently in search of a family to participate in a
wonderful program that Mrs. Schiavo has had the pleasure of teaching for the past 2
years. The program is called "Roots of Empathy".
Roots of Empathy focuses on raising the levels of empathy
among our students, which results in more respectful and caring relationships.
A Roots of Empathy
Family volunteers in the classroom with their baby who is two to four months
old at the beginning of the program. Families commit to visiting the classroom
once every three weeks during the program year.
Each visit would last approximately 30-40 minutes. Day and time can be
discussed to make sure it works into the parent(s) and baby’s schedule.
The baby is the "teacher" in our classroom, and Mrs. Schiavo, as the trained instructor, coaches students to observe the baby's development, emotions
and intentions. With the parent(s) and baby, Mrs. Schiavo will help students be able to
identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others.
If you or someone you know has a baby between 2 to 4
months of age, and might be interested in taking part in this program, please feel free to contact the school.
