On Friday, February 26,
2016, Ms. Nayir and three student members of the Healthy Schools Committee attended a
Healthy Schools Workshop.
First, the presenters introduced the
activities in store for us and the order of which things were going to happen.
We went on an active scavenger hunt where we got to know people from other
schools. We were able to familiarize ourselves with the community centre, and
were taught about how physical activity is not only good for you, but can also
be really fun and a good form of team building.
Then, there was a breakout
session, and the students and adults separated to their individual events. We
went to a stress workshop, and learned the many ways to relieve stress,
including blowing bubbles, listening to music, and “5 breaths” (breath around
hand and fingers in an in/out pattern).
Overall, we experienced a
variety of ways to stay healthy, which included not only eating healthy, but
also being physically active and being mentally healthy. we also got a lot of
ideas and we are excited about trying some of these ideas with the rest of the
Committee back at Johnsview Village.
