Term 1 Report Cards
Report cards were sent home today on Thursday, February 18th.
As
you read your child’s Term 1 Report Card, we hope that you receive a
clear indication of your child’s strengths and areas of need.
We
also would like you to help your child understand the next steps suggested for
their continued growth and progress as we embark on Term 2.
Self-regulation
skills is a focus for us as we help our students regulate their reactions to
situations and set goals for improvement, academically and socially.
The Ministry Report Cards include a tear-off section where your child is invited to write their goals for improvement and parents can include their comments as
well.
If
you have any questions, you may indicate your request to discuss your child’s
report with the teacher on this form or call into the school. As always, we thank you for your
support to ensure that our students are putting forth their best effort to
achieve success.

Hundreds Day at Johnsview PublicSchool
Happy 100th Day of School!
The count began on the first day of school! Today
... February 10th is the 100th Day of school!!!
To celebrate, the primary classes rotated to each classroom to engage in
hands-on learning centres to celebrate all things related to 100!
We flipped coins to see if heads or tails
appeared more often.
We forecasted what life would be like 100 years from now.
We rolled a die 100 times to see which number rolled up on top the most often.
We created a quilt with a 100 Chart using letters in our names.
We jumped up
100 times and touched our toes 100 times.
We had fun learning about 100 in our
lives!

No Food for Sharing on Valentine's Day
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This note is to remind all parents and guardians that as
Valentine’s Day approaches we want to ensure that we are engaging in best
practices so that our students who have severe food allergies are safe
at school.
Our best practice is to ensure that we are not bringing in
food, candy, baked foods or snack foods for sharing with other students.
This means that for tomorrow we will NOT be accepting any food product (this includes ALL candy) for distribution in the school. Any food received will be returned, unopened.
We ask all parents and guardians to continue to be vigilant
in reading food label packaging to avoid products that come in to contact with
peanuts and tree nuts.
Thank you for working with us to keep all of our students
safe.

Dressing for Winter Weather
During the
winter months, it is very important for children to come to school
appropriately dressed for
snow, slush, wind chill and icy conditions. We encourage students to wear
proper waterproof
footwear, scarves, gloves and warm coats and snowpants. This is important for students of all
ages for both safety and comfort. Students must plan and prepare for our winter weather!
Please discuss the importance of winter clothing and footwear with your child. An extra pair of socks and indoor shoes that fit are also important to keep feet warm and dry. As well, children must always be prepared to go outside for morning recess and lunch recess.

The school’s
expectations are that students dress appropriately with all winter gear on
BEFORE going outside for recess, as we want to reduce the number of students coming back in to the building to find an article of clothing.
Only in severe
conditions such as extreme cold, strong winds and snow storms, will outdoor
activities be cancelled by the
school Principal.

Book Fair at Johnsview Village
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The
Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school from February 22nd to February 26th and you are
invited to come and share in this celebration of literacy with us!
Now
more than ever, reading is vital to leading a better life. It’s the door opener
to the 21st century for all children. Knowing how to read is just
the beginning. Motivating young people to KEEP READING, comprehend what they
read and develop the ability to think creatively are the end goals.
At the Book Fair you will find books to
purchase that will help to motivate more reading. With your involvement, we can
inspire children to practice reading and read more often. Together, we can make
a difference in their lives that will last a lifetime. Your support of this vital literary
event is a key part of helping us obtain new books and resources for our
library and classrooms.
Don’t
forget to visit the Classroom Wish List display when you visit the Fair. Take a
moment to learn how purchasing books and donating them to your child’s
classroom, or the library and how you can give readers
even greater ACCESS to the books they want to read by expanding existing
classroom libraries.
Visit the Scholastic Book Fairs website at www.scholastic.ca/bookfairs to read reviews of the Featured
Books. You can also watch book trailers and author videos with your child on
the Book Tube page.
Next week, your child will be bringing home a Book Fair
flyer that provides a preview of only a FEW of the many books available to
purchase at our Fair. Scan the QR code on the front of the flyer with the QR
reader on your device to get more detailed information about these books. On
February 22nd students will have the opportunity to preview the
books and create their wish lists, which they will be sharing with you at home.
The flyer also contains a special ballot that parents can
deposit for a draw. Your child can win $50 in books – $25 for your family PLUS
$25 for your child’s classroom!
Don’t forget to mark the Book Fair dates, February 22nd
to February 26th, on your calendar! The Book Fair will be
open at 9:00 a.m. in the morning and after school until 4:00 p.m. We look forward to
seeing you during our Scholastic Book Fair. Thank you, in advance, for
supporting this great literary event and our school.
