School Council Executive for 2018-2019

Thank you to all the parents who attended our first School Council meeting at JVPS.

I am pleased to announce the following executive members for our school council for this year:

Joining school council is a wonderful way for parents to engage in their children's learning in an authentic and meaningful way.  Our council has many exciting events planned for this school year and we welcome parent participation and engagement to support all of our learners at JVPS.

Our upcoming school council meetings for this year will be held on:

• November   1
• January     24
• March       28
• June          13

All of our meetings start at 7:00 and end at 8:30 p.m.  We hold our meetings in the Learning Commons and we will always provide child care.

A Few Reminders...

Just a few reminders for parents:

• Monday September 24, 2018 is a PA Day for all elementary students.  There is no school for students on Monday. 
• We look forward to seeing our students back at school on Tuesday September 25, 2018.  Supervision in the yard starts at 8:45 a.m and classes start at 9:00 a.m.  We hope to see everyone back at school on time.
• Tuesday, September 25, 2018 is Picture Day at school.
• Thursday, September 27 2018 is our first School Council Meeting at JVPS. Our meetings start at 7:00 p.m. in the Learning Commons and babysitting will be available.

• Thursday,  October 4, 2018 is Curriculum Night.  Pizza will be sold at 6:00 p.m. and the first classroom presentation will start at 6:30 p.m.

Happy New Year

To all of our JVPS families celebrating the Jewish New Year we would like to wish you all a sweet and happy new year.

Lunch Assistants Needed- Can you help?

We are in need of Lunch Assistants! If you know of anyone (you, a neighbour, friend, grandparent, nanny…) who can give five hours a week to help us out at Lunch, please ask them to contact the office.

Lunch Assistants help to supervise inside while the children eat and outside while the children play. We endeavor to have the same person with the same group of children to help build consistency and relationships. We also do not place parents or grandparents with their own children or grandchildren.  Our lunch time starts at 12:50 and ends at 1:50. Would you be interested in the job?

We provide training for all Lunch Assistants and require a Vulnerable Sector Screening. This is a paid position and you would then be an employee of York Region District School Board.
