We Had a Great First Week at School
We had a fabulous first week of
school! Our students spent the week meeting their friends and getting to
know their teachers and routines.
At our first day assembly, we talked
about our goals for the year and our hopes for ensuring a happy and positive
school climate for all our children and staff. To do this, we see ourselves
as a community. A community is built on relationships where we are always
looking out or standing up for each other. We understand how important it is to
develop our own self-regulation skills. We work at being kind and patient with
one another and we get help when we need it.
We talked about our school pledge and
what that would look like throughout the year.
Here is the pledge for parents to
review with their children:
As a JVPS Student I pledge to:
- Be kind to others
- Include people who feel alone
- Take care of others when they are sad
- Treat others the way I would like to be treated
- Stand up for others
- Use appropriate language to make sure that I don't offend others
- Never judge others based on their appearance, their personality, their size, their interests, their gender, their race, or their beliefs
- Say, "Not in Our School" when I see someone being disrespectful toward others
Bne being disrespectful towards

First Day Package
A great big thank you to all parents and students for a wonderful first day back at school.
All students in YRDSB have been provided with a Guide Book and Start-up Package that outlines useful information from the school and Board. All families are asked to read this along with the school information in the Start-up Package.
All students received a first day package to bring home. Parents are asked to sign and return several important agreement forms that you will find in your first day package.
Please also consider volunteering your time to benefit our school and returning the volunteer list and School Council form.
Most importantly, we ask that you carefully look over your child’s Personal Student Verification forms. Please update all emergency phone numbers and home phone numbers which must be corrected, signed and returned to the school to ensure that we have accurate emergency information.
Please return these forms as soon as possible or by September 15th. Thank you for your cooperation.
Upcoming...
Pizza and Sub Lunch:
These forms will be coming out shortly on School Cash On-Line.

Reminder of Parking Routines at JVPS
Dear Johnsview Village Families,
In our combined effort to keep our children safe and in being good neighbours with the Johnsview Village Co-op, we are asking for your continued support for our drop-off and pick-up procedures at our school. We would just like to remind all families who drive of the following routines:
Street Parking:
· Please park in legal street parking spaces only
· Please do not park on the north side of Porterfield
· Please obey all street signs: No U turns on Porterfield
· Please do not leave your car running and unattended
· Please do not park in spots reserved for residents of the
Johnsview Village Co-op
Thank you for working with us to keep our students safe.
Morning Drop Off Routines
Dear Parents of Full Day Kindergarten and Grades 1 to 3 students:
This note is a reminder to all parents of FDK and primary students (Grades 1 to 3) to please drop off your children outside the kindergarten gate. We are requesting that parents of all children not enter the kindergarten enclosed yard. This will help the staff in the following ways:
· Ensure that all children are accounted for as it is difficult to see the children with all the adults in the kindergarten yard
· Help improve separation between parents and children
· Reduce congestion at the entry gate to the kindergarten yard
Starting from the first day of school, Tuesday September 5, 2017, parents are asked to drop their children off at the kindergarten gate at 8:45 a.m. when supervision begins.
Please note that there is supervision in the FDK yard and primary yard at 8:45 a.m.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Mrs. Goldberg, the Kindergarten Team and the Primary Staff
School Supplies
The first day of school is very exciting for most children and parents.
It is a time for new beginnings, new friends, new clothes and
new school supplies.
Although, schools provide basic supplies, some families like to go out to the dollar store or office supply store to get new personal supplies for their children. Often we are asked for advice on what to get. On the first days of school each classroom teacher usually provides an introductory newsletter with a list of things children will need age appropriate to their classes. However, in case you are going out this week, here are a few things for your consideration.
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
To get you started...below is a list of suggested (NOT mandatory) school supplies that will be used in school...
- A pencil case
- pencils, pencils, pencils (1 class can use 500 pencils in a year)
- pencil crayons
- markers
- crayons
- pencil sharpener
- ruler
- glue sticks
- tape
- eraser
- scissors
- binder (for older students)
- reusable water bottle
- a box of Kleenex tissue (to be restocked during the year)
- indoor shoes
- sneakers to be worn for gym
We also remind you to label clothing with your child's name. Kindergarten and Grade 1 students should also have a change of clothing in case of accidents. As the weather gets wet, extra socks is always a good idea.
Welcome Back JVPS Families
We are looking forward to welcoming back all of our students on Tuesday September 5, 2017. We would like to extend a special welcome to our new students and their families.
We hope everyone had a great summer and that you are all looking forward to another fantastic year at JVPS.
The school looks great. Our caretaker, Mr. Addesi, has worked diligently over the summer months to ensure that our school is clean. Our teachers have been in to set up their classrooms so that our school is all ready to welcome our students. You will notice that many of our classrooms have new millwork and our makerspace and learning commons have new additions as well!!!
Supervision starts at 8:45 a.m and we look forward to greeting our students in the playground.
We are asking our primary students to gather on the back primary tarmac where the teachers will be outside to greet them and sort them in to their classrooms.
We are asking the junior and intermediate students (grades 4 to 8) to gather on the back junior/intermediate tarmac where the teachers will be outside to greet them and sort them into their classrooms.
Just a final reminder for parents of Junior Kindergarten students ONLY that the first day of school (September 5th only) is a half day. We are asking you to pick up your children at 11:30 a.m. from the kindergarten rooms.
We are also inviting parents of Junior Kindergarten students to come a bit earlier at 11:00 a.m to meet with Oksana Majeski, our Community Resource Facilitator, in the learning commons to learn more about joining School Council for the upcoming school year.
Have a great long weekend.
