Happy Eid

To all of our Johnsview Families who celebrate Eid ul Fitr, we would like to wish you a very happy celebration.

Character Trait Assembly

Our Character Assembly for June will  focus on "Optimism."

Throughout the month, our students have been discussing what optimism means to them in the classrooms and with their friends in the school yard. Optimism can be defined as follows:

“We maintain a positive attitude. We look on the brighter sides of situations. We are able to see opportunities even in the face of adversity. We have hope for the future.”

All year and every year we educate and explicitly teach our students such life skills, especially the ten identified YRDSB Character Matters character traits of:

RESPECT
RESPONSIBILITY
COURAGE
EMPATHY
FAIRNESS
INITIATIVE
PERSEVERANCE
INTEGRITY
HONESTY
OPTIMISM

We thank you for your partnership in reminding our students what it takes to have good character and how important it is for our children to apply such character traits in how they interact with each other and in the way they see themselves. Together, we can persevere to nurture responsible citizens of the world who demonstrate empathy, kindness and caring for all living things.

We look forward to honouring those students who have displayed the trait of "Optimism” at our awards assembly on Wednesday, June 28 at 11:45 a.m. Parents and guardians are welcome to join us.

Reminder: Early Dismissal on Thursday June 29

Thursday, June 29, 2017 Early Dismissal in Elementary Schools

All schools in the York Region District School Board are committed to improving student achievement and well-being.  On Thursday, June 29, 2017, an early release day will take place to allow elementary teachers and support staff to take part in meetings during the afternoon of that day.  These meetings will allow for school staff to engage in culminating activities regarding the review and revision of the School’s Improvement Plan as well as year-end and transition activities that support student success.

As has been our practice in the past, students will attend school during the morning of Thursday, June 29, 2017 ONLY.

Students will be dismissed early that day at 12:00 NOON.

Arrangements will be made to ensure that students who are normally bused to and from school will receive transportation at this time.  Parents/guardians whose children attend after school child care should make appropriate arrangements to address this change in schedule.
