Hallowe'en Celebration at JVPS
Re: Hallowe'en Celebration on Monday October 31 at
JVPS
Each
year, our students celebrate the long-standing tradition of Hallowe'en.
Students
choosing to celebrate this occasion in costume at our school must comply with
the Safe School’s Policy.
Costume
accessories including, but not limited to:
- toy
guns, knives, axes, swords, daggers, axes, any replica weapon
are
NOT in compliance with York Region District School Board’s Safe Schools Policy #668.0.
All costume accessories of this nature CANNOT
be brought to school. Please ensure that
these items remain at home.
In
order to ensure student safety, please do not send children to school with a
face mask. Students may choose to use face-paint instead.
Please
note that this policy applies to all students at all levels, including Kindergarten.
In
addition, NO food will be allowed in
to the school for Hallowe'en for sharing.
Please ensure that all candies and baked goods remain at home. Any food that is brought in for classrooms
will be returned to parents unopened.
Candy is NOT to be handed out in any classroom.
We want to ensure that our students with life threatening allergies remain safe at school. As a general reminder, ALWAYS check ingredients of packaged products for your child’s snacks and lunches to ensure that the label does not say, “May contain peanuts”.

Talking About Math at JVPS
The math
curriculum for each elementary school grade is organized in five strands, or
areas of learning. In each strand, students develop their ability to think
mathematically, investigate concepts and relationships, apply their knowledge
and skills to solve problems, and communicate their thinking.
In Patterning and
Algebra, children
learn to build models to represent real-life situations. Each child is
developing the ability to identify patterns and generalize and make predictions
based on patterns. Each child is
learning to use symbols and equations to describe mathematical relationships.
Here are two examples from our classrooms as to
how children are learning to represent patterns.
School Council Executive for 2016 - 2017
Thank you to all the parents who came out for our first school council meeting.
The School Council Executive for this year are:
Chair Mrs. Nari Ismail

The York Region District School Board believes that collaborative and inclusive
partnerships, among schools, families and their communities, are essential to improving
student learning and increasing a shared sense of accountability for public education.
Strong partnerships are built from a common vision and common goals, nurtured
through regular communication and meaningful consultation, involving all members of
the school community [through engagement and inclusion].
School councils play an important role in building school, family and community
partnerships by providing input into relevant school-level decisions and by
encouraging the involvement of all members of the school community at JVPS in support of
student learning, achievement and well-being.
